john William has explored the planet Mercury... but no one has been sent out to this planet
There have been no manned missions to Mercury.
From what I have learned, there has not yet been a robot that explored Mercury from closeup. They see Mercury since it is able to be seen by the naked eye in certain times of the night and day. It can also be seen with a telescope. So in all: There has not yet been a robot to explore Mercury from what I know. I apologize if this is incorrect.
Simply because it's too far away! Missions to explore space that were launched decades ago still haven't reached the edge of the known solar system yet (i.e. Pluto).
Anyone who has had mercury on their skin, breathed in mercuric gases, or a scientist working with various forms of mercury, some being way more deadly than just plain mercury. When handling or working around mercury, gloves, mask and protective eyewear should be worn. Old style thermometers are also dangerous as children can break them open and be exposed to mercury. While in the body, mercury can stay inate and not cause any damage and be expelled, or can move to the brain causing parkinson's and neurological damage, or even death.
There is always another space for another welcomed planet!
