I have a 1995 Z28 and a lift.... I didn't see a dampener (shock absorber like)on the steering unit, unless it is completely covered by the metal bulk head support underneath it. If it had one, I would like to replace it b/c it feels like it needs it, but I guess it could be a control arm bushing or a tie rod end etc. -Zeb
Sounds like wheel balance, but check the steering dampner.
suspension your steering dampner has gone bad, replace it and the shaking will stop.
There were no IROC Camaros in 1991
Handlebar bearings may be too tight, steering arms may be bent or overtightened, malfunctioning steering dampner, oversized front tires.
You may need a new steering shock, rotate tires or need new tires. A new steering dampner shock, or front break rotars.
2 possible issues, warped brake disc, or failing steering dampner.
1. out of balance wheels 2. misaligned front end 3. worn out steering dampner.
Yes, the steering dampner helps stop sudden movements of the front wheels that happen so ofter with solid front axle vehicles, it's a good thing.
If 4x4, replace steering dampner that is a bandaid, is not addressing the real problem. could be worn or bent steering parts, bad ujoints, out of alignment or bent or unbalenced wheel.
Check into a new steering dampner, it's a common cause for shake at speed in a Jeep, but it could also be alignment or balance.
8536 ss Camaros, 12000 rs Camaros, and 1278 convertible
On a 97 Camaro RS it's located to the left of the steering wheel. You have to open the door to get to it and there's a plastic cover over it.
