In order to answer this question i sadly have to say that he faced certain impeachment but I'll talk about that AFTER i state why. anyways, Nixon was known for the Watergate scandal & faced almost certain impeachment therefore he was the first president to resign, EVER IN THE HISTORY OF PRESIDENCY.
