It was rather expensive at the time, but was still a good deal. Compared to the prices today, it was a great bargain!

The US paid France $11,250,000 for the territory and all rights. At the time the cost was about 3 cents an acre! Even factoring for inflation, in today's money it would have been less than 42 cents an acre.
