The disciples wanted to call down fire from heaven to consume the unwelcoming Samaritan village when they were passing through, but Jesus rebuked them and told them that they didn't know what spirit they were of.

The Samaritan woman has not understood the spiritual meaning of the term 'living water', thinking it the water of the nearby well. Christ was using it as a metaphor for the gift of spiritual life and its fruits.
