No. Nicholas Spykman did.
Systematics try to figure out their evolutionary relationships.
John Tourma was the fist to propose this theory, and was in the time of 1934 February 12.

The term "systematics" was introduced by Carl Linnaeus, a Swedish botanist, in the 18th century. Linnaeus is known as the father of modern taxonomy for his work in categorizing and naming organisms in a hierarchical system.
Cladistics!
Whittaker's systematics includes ecological factors in addition to morphological characteristics, whereas Linnaeus's system is primarily based on physical similarities. Whittaker's system also accounts for genetic relationships between species, while Linnaeus's system focuses on classifying organisms based on shared physical traits.
The answer depends on the time period, and what is meant by systematics. In it's broadest definition, the study of diversification in organisms and their relationships through time, I think that Carl Linnaeus is the most obvious contributor from early naturalists. Willi Hennig, German biologist, also comes to mind, for more recent phylogenetic systematics.
