It depends on your point of view. Some say yes, men did actually walk on the moon, while others claim it was a hoax. Skeptics cite the 'fluttering flag' on footage of Neil Armstrong's video links. Since there's no air on the moon - the flag should have been absolutely stationary. Other reasons given cite the radiation of the Van Allen belt as being far too powerful to allow anyone to pass through it safely.
Subsequent mapping of the lunar surface by Google Earth fails to show any evidence of the supposed activities carried out by astronaughts. Whether that's because there's no evidence to observe - or it's been 'censored' by the us government (no great surprise there !) - remains to be seen.
For me - the 'jury is still out' as to whether the moon landings actually occurred.
They did. About 17 men went to the moon.
The first men to go to the moon were Neil Armstrong ans Edwin Aldrin. In the Apollo 11 .
Michael Collins, Edwin Aldrin and Neil Armstrong were the first men to go to moon. P.S: Only Edwin Aldrin and Neil Armstrong stepped on the moon's surface.
The inspiration came from JFk. Also to discover the unknown
The stated purpose of President Kennedy's goal was to "land men on the moon and return him safelty to the earth." Kennedy said nothing about walking on the moon. NASA decided that if they were to send men to the moon, it would be logical that they go outisde and explore. Hence, the moonwalks.

1969
A total of 12 people, all American men, have visited the Moon.

No. Only men have landed on the moon during the Apollo moon missions between 1969 and 1972.
Bring back rocks etc.....

There have been no women on the moon. There have been no black men on the moon because there were none qualified who wanted to be astronauts.
Between 1969 and 1972 12 men landed on the moon. In 1969 4 men landed on the moon. In 1970 2 men landed on the moon. In 1971 2 men landed on the moon. In 1972 4 men landed on the moon.
At the present time (March 9, 2011) no woman has been to the moon. Only men have gone there.
