I think they did.
society viewed men as cowards and shamed them if they didnt go to war. Usually, they will be forced or drafted into the war and didnt really have a choice.
yes they did have a choice to join but towards the end of the war there were two reffarendams held. Australian communitys had to vote on wheather they wanted conscription or not but they were not passed so austrlaian men did have a choice to join the army.
Drafted men had no choice; they just did what they were told (did their 2 yrs in the OD and departed). OD was one of many slang names for the Army back then, "Olive Drab."
Adolf Hitler made all these decisions for Germany 1933-1945. It was his choice to go to war. The people of Germany generally supported his decision.
Conscription was used in World War 1, when men wouldn't join the army the Government used conscription as a way of making men join. They had absolutely no choice.
Men only, yes; until the end of the Vietnam War.
Yes that is true .... Men were the only ones allowed, women had to stay behind (they had no choice...).
to hunt to get food for the family by hunting an going to war if needed
They had to work in the factories for the first time ever.
young men felt patriotic about the war. This meant that they had a positive attitude about it and were eager to serve their country.
It was not your choice to pick if you wanted to got to war or not. It was not optional you had to go. Unless you had a valid reason for not going like lets say you are too old and ill to go to war you would make weapons or work in a factory any way you would still be contributing some work for war.
That's called politics. Fighting men (Sailors, Marines, Airmen, Soldiers) have no choice in the matter. They just get drafted, go to war, do their job, then go home.
