I think that Demi believes that Miley will be like a good person to tag along with to get her career boosted and that Demi loves the way that Miley's career has turned out and wants to be just like her. i also think that Miley is just using Demi to make her career look better, what i mean by this is that she wants the media to think that she is like mentoring Demi or something, like she is trying to help her when she really is not. i believe that Miley is really just trying to get back at Demi's former best friend Selena Gomez. Miley has stolen Demi away just as she believes that Selena stole Nick from her. and that's why Miley mocks and hates Selena because she believes that Selena stole Nick from her and that's why he dumped her, when really they just grew apart. So really, i believe that this is Miley's way of getting revenge on Selena for something she never did, by using Demi.
