The specifics of Nellie Bly's name is very interesting. She was born Elizabeth Jane Cochran, but she added an "e" to her last name (making it Cochrane) when she was in school because she thought is was more elegant. She then was given the pen name, Nellie Bly, but this was not her real name only the name her works were published under because it was improper to publish your real name at the time. Later on she married, changing her name to Elizabeth Jane Cochrane Seaman. She i guess you could say her middle name was "Jane Cochrane" or just "Jane".
