In the 1800's horses were used in much the same ways they are now, but more frequently. They were used for racing, for drawing carriages and for rustling cattle. Machines have replaced them for these functions in many cases.

In the 1800s, horses were used for pulling carriages and being used as transporatation. They also used horses for that same reason in the Southwest, but they had a lot of cowboys back then, so they would use horses also for that reason, but only realling in hte Southwest.
