Yes and no. It depends when you mean.
The idea of a round Earth was accepted before the idea of the Sun being in the middle of the solar system.
It was only about 400 years ago that people began to believe in the "heliocentric" (Sun centered ) solar system.
Geo is Greek for Earth, so geocentric means the Earth is at the centre of the Solar System and everything, including the Sun, revolve round the Earth. Observations that led to this - well people see the Sun rise in the east and set in the west. Same with the Moon and planets. So they assumed that the earth was in the middle.
The earth is an oblate spheroid (not a sphere) this means it is is fatter round the middle (the equator) than it is round the north south axis. This difference is caused because the earth is spinning and the spin flings the the middle out against the pull of gravity.
People have known the earth is round for over 2,000 years and did experiments. very is likely the Egyptians and Moses thought it was round. most people like flat earthers dont know people knew the earth was round before Columbus.
mercator
THe globe is round because the earth is round. The globe is suppose to be a similar verison of the earth but smaller in size to people can see it.
it can be like the earth round the sun, the moon round the earth, the lines in the middle of a road, anything that's a constant distance away from something.
People think the Earth is round because of evidence from scientific experiments, observations, and calculations that point to its spherical shape. Additionally, images from space missions and satellites show the Earth as a globe.
It is called a great circle and the plane that circle makes must pass through the geometric center of the globe. The largest circle that can be drawn round the Earth is the great circle round its middle, the "equator" this is because the spinning of the earth makes it 'fatter' round the middle.
it is a robinson projection
