Yes. (in a way) Ron Paul started the tea party. But it was really a grass roots movement with which Ron Pauls 2008 presidential campaign had nothing to do with. It was a spontaneous up-swell of support of Dr Paul which culminated in the Moneybomb which set historical all time records in fund raising!!!
But the "tea party" was quickly hijacked by Fox News, Sarah Palin and other "false conservatives". I'm unsure if you could relate the average tea party voter with Ron Paul anymore.
If you want to know what started the tea party and what it stood for in the beginning, watch any Ron Paul Speech. He is truly amazing

You have your stories mixed up. Paul Revere warned the citizens of Lexington and Concord that the British Army was coming. He had no role in the Boston Tea Party.
Originally the Tea Party (2008 to Present) was formed on the ideals of Conservative Libertarianism and Constitutionalism, and was greatly influenced by Congressman Ron Paul. The main basis for the party was to lower taxes (hence the name: TEA = Taxed Enough Already) and cut federal spending, but now the party has been "adopted" by the Republican party and Christian theocrats like Michelle Bachmann and Sarah Palin.
