I rode on one as a kid, but haven't seen one in 20 years or so... Basically it is a "wooden boat" type swing where two passengers face each other and pull a set of ropes to propel themselves. The one I used was at a campground in Pennsylvania and was more of an amusement ride than a form of lawn furniture - although it's definitely more relaxing than modern amusement rides.

They now use metal handles, which they move left and right.
