No. The Colonists treated the Natives horribly.


The Natives were compelled into near-slave-labor in order to produce quotas of gold and silver. Columbus and his successors were incredibly abusive and violent to those who failed to live up to unreachable quotas. Massive numbers of Natives were killed off due to the labor conditions and the diseases that Europeans brought. The Europeans also did not respect Indigenous religions and societies, destroying all of their civilizations. It was not until Bartolomé de las Casas wrote to the Spanish Government and the Catholic church that injunctions against enslavement of Natives were proffered. However, Natives were still abused and vastly underpaid well into the post-colonial period (in many cases up to the 20th century).
