the civil war started with the battle of fort Sumter and ended ion the appomattox Courthouse where general Lee was forced to surrender, thus ending the civil war.
The first armed conflict that soon led to the US Civil War was the Confederate bombardment of the Federal Fort Sumter in the Charleston harbor. The fort surrendered and President Lincoln called for 75,000 volunteers to serve three months to end the rebellion.
The battle that was the beginning of the US Civil War, was the canon barrages against the Federal Fort Sumter. The fort was in the Charleston Harbor in South Carolina. The fort had to surrender and forced US President Lincoln to begin preparations to end the rebellion.
It was returned to the fort at the end of the war in 1865, and is on display at the National Park Service monument at the fort.
The Civil War began in 1861 when the first shot was fired at Fort Sumter. It ended in a surrender between Grant and Lee in 1865 at Appomattox Courthouse.
It can be reasonably argued that the hostilities at Fort Sumter (in the harbor of Charleston, South Carolina) changed the course of the Civil War for at least this reason: without this conflict, the Civil War might never have happened. On the other hand, because the South was intent on splitting from the Union, it seems certain that some "spark" would soon have been struck that would have ignited war even if Fort Sumter had not been fired upon in April of 1861. The course of the US Civil War was created after the assault on Fort Sumter and the call-up for 75,000 Federal troops by US President Lincoln to help end the rebellion. The stakes became higher and enlarged the "rebellion" when four more Southern states joined the Confederacy.
Do you mean, "How long did the Civil War last?" - because it only took a few minutes for it to end...one minute they were shooting at each other, then they stopped.... The Civil War, by most accounts, began in 1861 at the shelling of Fort Sumter in Charleston, South Carolina. It ended in 1865. You do the math.
all i know about fort sumter is that it was where the first battle of the civil war took place. union forces were going to take back fort sumter and the confederates open fired on them, causing them to take evasive action.
The civil war began in Fort Sumter on April 12 1861. It ended on April 9 1865 at the McLean house in the village of Appomattox courthouse, Virginia when general Robert E. Lee surrendered to the Union.
The Confederate attack on Fort Sumter began on April 12, 1861. The fort was forced to surrender on the 14th of April. This led President Lincoln to call for 75,000 volunteers to end the Southern rebellion. Upon that order, four more states joined the Confederacy, Virginia, North Carolina, Arkansas and Tennessee. The attack on Fort Sumter led directly to the US Civil War.
