Correction, it did not end the depression world wide. The US was just coming out of the depression in 1940 and England was still in the depression and that did not end for ten years past the end of the war. Many countries did not pull out of the depression for many years.
The US hit an economic boom during the war because they were making money building ships, planes, military vehicles, uniforms, boats, weapons, bombs and ammo. So people were working again and the depression ended in the US. Women worked and that added to their incomes. They could not really spend all the money they were earning. Most saved it up and spent it after the war to buy houses and cars and furniture.
