The Indians living east of the Louisiana purchase
Native American Indians were exposed to Christianity from the various European explorations and settlements - French in North America, Canada, and Louisiana territories; Spanish in Florida, California and the Mid-west to west coast; Dutch and English on the East Coast pushing west. Missionaries were also sent out to convert them.
Indians were upset that they were being controlled through the Louisiana purchase and became very angry towards the white people for killing their peony.
The Louisiana purchase did not really challenge Thomas Jefferson's presidency, but in fact helped it. He bought it extremely cheap off of the bankrupt French and used it to execute American expansionism. The only problem that came out of it was the Indians, which would pose a much larger problems in later presidencies.
The dutch purchased from American Indians in present day Manhatten Island.
