the answer to this is unknown, yet. although Queensland is long away from Melbourne, the amount of rain Queensland received may possibly be distributed to Melbourne if it does not stop. The river system that feeds Melbourne is some distance from the river system into which the Queensland floodwaters are emptying. However, parts of Victoria (the state of which Melbourne is capital) will most certainly be affected by the floodwaters moving downstream.
