The United States worried that the Soviets would try to come and destroy their military. So, scientist developed bigger bombs and missiles. The Soviets and United States made bombs and missiles to see who had the better bombs and missiles. That's how the arm's race began. Hint: If you pay attention to the words "arm's race", you can see that it states that they raced using their arm's.
