Guy Fawkes may of told the truth about his identity but the council might of lied so they could of got him into trouble. The council got the gunpowder, they set the Catholics up so king James would hate Catholics even more.
some people believe that he was behind the whole thing. it is said that he fed ideas throught lord monteagle in order to convince King James I that Catholics should be gotten rid of. it is also believed that he knew all along that the plot would fail because the gunpowder was in fact decayed, and therefore would never have blown up. when he was informed of the plot, he actually waited for a few days so it could thicken,m before moving in and arresting the conspirators.
The Protestants wanted to frame the catholics so Robert Cecil King James I chief adviser set them up and gave them the idea then sent the letter to king James the Protestants then had a reason to prosecute the catholics !

No one really knows. but, Guy Fawkes served the Spanish army as an explosives expert, so it could be him. More likely though, it was taken from the tower of London. They can sell in hunting area, but you need licence to buy it.

(1) The gunpowder was so old that it may not have even been able to ignite, (2) there was an anonymous warning letter of betrayal sent, (3) only Guy Fawkes (Guido) was on the scene that morning, and (4) to celebrate the foiling of the plot, bonfires were lit that very night (!)
