yes, as in the german submarine warfare against u.s. merchant ships. almost 200 ships are believed to have been sunk by u-boots, in the carribbean. as well, as another 175 ships along the u.s. east coast.

war is greatly dependent on the use of commodities, and carribbean sugar was pouring into the country for the war effort.
