The women in World War Two were forced to work in textile industries and other arduous work locations. The children, who in the daytime had no supervisor, simply hid in the basement (to prevent soldiers from spotting them) and played video games, such as Super Mario Galaxy and Mario Kart Wii.
Because with all of the men gone at war, there was no one to work, but the women stepped in to substitute for the men.
