Egypt uses both paper currency as well as metal coins as money.
Egypt
In Ancient Egypt they used a currency system based on gold an silver. They used those materials for coins. So about 2000 years ago they started using coins.
Egypt, about 2000 BC
There are, for example, 2012 piastre coins from Egypt or Jordan
Egypt, as far as we know did NOT have coins, paper money, Banks, etc. For all intensive purposes, a moneyless economy- but they did have slaves.
umm well there are many but there are about 12 and they receive golden coins
In terms of money used in Ancient Egypt, because it is so long ago there is absolutely no way of comparing to any modern currency. They did not even have coins for much of the time of Ancient Egypt, initially using a barter system. Coins did eventually come in. There was not real world economy with international trade in the way we know it now, so the way we analyse economies between countries today did not apply in Ancient Egypt.

Roman coins were used primarily to purchase things. The secondary purpose of a coin was to "advertise" something. One side of a coin would have a man's head, usually the emperor, but other famous men were also depicted, especially during the republic. The other side of the coin would have an inscription and a picture of something that the guy on the other side did. For example, when Octavian conquered Egypt, his head was on one side and the other had symbols of Egypt.
