In colonial times, you would give your letter to either a messenger, or a close friend. (Because the british would often look through private mail.) The would either give it to the person you are sending it to the next time they see them. Or, if it's urgent, ride on horse back to their house and deliver the letter.
ZAYADUR: I think mostly it was men on horse back, or it could've been enslaved Indians that acted as post men. Either way, they had bad ways.
