Most women did not hunt during the Middle Ages, but some did. We have artwork showing medieval women who were members of the nobility and royalty hunting. In general when women hunted, they were hawking, which meant that they were hunting birds, but having their hawks catch and kill the birds for them.
Because in the middle ages, and indeed to this day in many countries, it was considered more fitting for the men to go to war and for the women to sit at home barefoot and pregnant.
