BC means Before Christ
AD means Anno Domino
CE means Common Era
BC means before Christ and AD stands for Anno Domini (year of the lord). BC is before the birth of Christ and AD are the years after the birth. People often use BC as Before the Common era and CE for Common Era (CE). Not all people are christian.
A century is one hundred years. BC stands for "Before Christ" and AD stands for "Anno Domini", meaning "in the year of the Lord". So 100 BC means, well, 100 years before Christ arrived. 200 BC means 200 years and so on. BC time counts backwards, so 2000 BC is further in the past than 1000 BC. The terms BCE are coming into use, meaning "Before the Christian Era" or "Before the Common Era" which is more acceptable to countries that have no or few Christians. Similarly CE (Christian Era, or Common Era) are being used instead of AD.
The first century AD (Anno Domini, frequently CE for Common Era is now used in place of AD). There was no century long period called the zeroth century.
CE is what people more commonly call AD. It stands for "Common Era" but is no different from AD, time wise. So 600 CE is the same as 600 AD
BC years are counted down. For example: 312 BC, 311 BC, 310 BC... and so on until you reach 0, and then it turns from 0 to 1 AD, 2 AD, 3 AD, and so forth. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________ Actually the BC years originally were counting in ascending order until 395 AD/ CE year that the Emperor Theodosius I the Great issued the decree that forbid the Olympic Games. The ancient world had as counting base the Olympic Games and the Olympiads - the 4 years period between two Olympic Games. There were counted approximately 290 Olympiads since they were introduced in 776 BCE. Several adjustments occurred in the course of time. The major one that survived to current days is the Julian calendar - still in use by the Eastern Greek Orthodox Church - which was introduced and adopted in 46 BCE and until 8 AD/ CE was monitored and fine tuned. This calendar was amended by the Pope Gregory XIII on the 24th of February 1582. The numbering of the years as we understand the term today was set and agreed in 412 AD/ CE. That is the reason that leaves a gap of 4 to 7 years since there is not a year 0 [zero].
Quote from Answers.com :"The only difference between "BC/AD" and "BCE/CE" is that the term Common Era does not use the religious titles for Jesus ("Lord" and "http://www.answers.com/topic/christ-9") that are explicit in "anno Domini" and "before Christ"." So therefore the answer is 563 AD.
There were 1603 years between 396 CE (AD) and 1999 CE (AD).
570 AD. CE (common era) is just a secular way of saying AD (anno domini - the year of our lord)
It was 1939-1945 AD.

CE - the common era ie - a different way of saying AD
AD = CE or Common Era or Christian Era BC = BCE or Before Common Era or Before Christian Era
The term CE stands for Common Era, it takes the place of AD. The term BCE means Before Common Era and takes the place of BC. A politically correct term as the entire world is not Christian and AD and BC have Christian connotations.
CE is Common Era, it's the same thing as AD (Anno Domini) BCE is also used instead of BC We are in the year 2009 AD and 2009 CE.
The years between are the years from 249 BC to 1BC, and 1AD to 249AD, ie. 498 years.
