A party that secures atleast 6% of the total votes in a Lok Sabha election or secures 4 seats in Assembly elections and wins 4 seats in Lok Sabha election is called as National party. At present we have 6 National parties in India eg. INC, BJP, BSP, CPI, CPI-M, NCP. While A party that secures 6% of the total votes in a state assembly election and wins at least 2 seats in Legislative assembly is known as Regional party. At present in India there are more than 750 regional parties. Eg. Janta Dal, Trinamool congress, Samajvadi party etc.
