Right sided colon cancer takes place in the ascending and transverse colon, as left sided colon cancer is found in the descending and sigmoid colon. Right sided colon cancer is associated with more advanced disease when found and can spread more readily to LNs or peritoneal carcinomatosis. These tumors show more K-RAS mutations and microsatellite instability. Overall survival is lower in right sided colon cancer.
Left sided colon cancer tend to cause more obstructive problems, often develop from polyps in early stages and tend to become metastatic to lung and liver sites.

Invasion into the colon which requires removal of some of the colon on the right side of the body
The structure between the ascending and transverse colon is the hepatic flexure, also known as the right colic flexure. It is the sharp bend between these two portions of the colon and is located near the liver.
The first section of the large intestine is the Right Ascending colon, which begins with the cecum. it is followed by the Transverse colon, and finally the Sigmoid colon. Less than 10% of colon cancers (some sources say only 5%) occur in the Ascending colon or cecum. The majority of colon cancers occur in the Sigmoid colon.
The removal of colon is called a colectomy. The name will vary according to the site: Right hemicolectomy or Left hemicolectomy for removal of left or right side of colon, and Sigmoid colectomy for removal of sigmoid colon and Anterior resection for removal of colon and upper rectum and finally APR (Abdomino Perineal Resection) which is resection of lower part of colon and rectum
Ways that you can help to prevent colon cancer are exercising, eating right and not smoking. Know your family history and see a doctor to make sure that everything is working as it should. http://coloncancer.about.com/od/cancerprevention/a/Colon_Cancer.htm

Colon is divided into several distinct regions, ascending colon, right colic flexure, transverse colon, left colic flexure, descending colon, sigmoid colon. The Colon is part of the large intestine.Large intestine is connected to small intestine through ileocecal valve and is about 5 feet long. It ends at the anus, encircles small intestine on 3 sides and has subdivisions called the cecum, vermiform, appendix, colon, rectum, anal canal. There is no difference between the colon and large intestine. Colon is just another word for large intestine.Actually: The colon is the largest part of the large intestine, there is a descending, transverse, and ascending colon, right and left colic flexure, as well as the sigmoid colon, these are all parts of the colon. However the colon is not the only part of the large intestine, there are also the cecum, vermiform appendix, rectum, and anal canal. Therefore the colon carries it towards the rectum, but the rectum is not part of the colon.
There are four main subdivisions to the colon. The ascending colon, the transverse colon, the descending colon, and the sigmoid colon. The ascending colon travels up the right side of the abdomen until it reaches the level of the right kidney. It then turns at a right angle (known as the right colic flexure) and travels across the abdominal cavity as the transverse colon. It then bends at a right angle again (known as the left colic flexure) and continues down the left side of the abdomen as the descending colon. The colon then enters the pelvis and becomes the 's' shaped sigmoid colon.
The sequence of the colon is: cecum with the attached appendix, the ascending colon, transverse colon, the descending colon, and the sigmoid colon (S shaped) and ends at the rectum.
You need to see a doctor right away. Bleeding from the colon can be harmless or very dangerous, from hemorrhoids to cancer.
