The pony cars were based on the compact body cars and featured small block V8 engines
The Muscle cars were based on full sized cars and fitted the most powerful engine available.
The Ford Mustang is the one and only "Pony" car.
install a muscle car engine in it like a charger
yeah, its a muscle car! Wikipedia calls it a sports car, but really it is a muscle car. Wikipedia is too fancy to call it by its right name. Another name that Wikipedia will use is a pony car. A challenger is not a pony car, a mustang is. The mustang literly has a pony symbol on it.
Chevelle was probably the Chevrolet Model that best fit the "Muscle car" Description. Corvettes were always first considered a "Sports car" and the Camaro was a "Pony car" a compact version of a Muscle car.
Yes, but more specifically they made the sub-category "Pony cars".
It is credited with starting the compact muscle car segment(even thou the barracuda actually came out first). A mustang is a wild american horse and a pony is a small type of horse.
A muscle car is factory built, and a hot rod, home built.
Ford's GT-500 is currently the fastest production MUSCLE car. Corvette does not count as it is a performance car like mentioned above. American does not mean muscle. -- If you want to split hairs, the corvette is a "sports car", the mustang is a "pony car", the Dodge Charger srt-8 is the fast "muscle car" by definition. Everyone of my dozen or so "Muscle car" books have the corvette in them. -------------- First off- I agree with above, Every muscle car book ever published has corvettes in them. FACT, yes it is really a sports car like said above. Yes the mustang is a pony car, not really categorized as a muscle car, I.E. mid size performance vehicles. Second- The viper has a top speed around 206mph, so it is faster than the vette and GT500. The new Shelby gt500 has a 202mph top speed, but it is really a tuner car. Just like the hurst hemi's (still the fastest 1/4mile car produced in the usa)and Baldwin motion chevy's of the 60's. Lingenfelter vehicles today... which are a lot faster.
Size. A pony stops being a pony and is a horse at 14.2 hh.
Mustang
It is spelled Camaro. It is made by Chevrolet and was first produced from 1967 to 2002 and then production resumed in 2010 until the present. It is classified as a Pony Car. High horsepower versions are considered Muscle Cars.
The GTO is considered the 1st mainly because of how Popular it was and how well it sold. If you really look at the history of American performance cars, Most Muscle car experts would actually say that the first Muscle car was the 1949 Oldsmobiles "Rocket" 88. There were many cars before the GTO that were High powered and even faster than the GTO. Same with the "Pony car", Most say it was the Ford Mustang and they would be Wrong... The Plymouth Barracuda came out first... The Mustang Just Sold ALOT.
