A globe is a replica and true representation of the earth's shape and surface.

A map cannot provide an accurate representation of the earth's surface because it is a flat surface. (Try pasting a map on a globe.) It doesn't work.

Maps use projections like the Mercator Projection to show the earth's surface but it causes distortions because a map is flat and the earth is spherical in shape.

A globe shows the earth as it would look (basically) from space. A map is a bird's eye view of the surface below, and is shown as a flat section of the earth. How much or in what detail information is shown depends on the scale and purpose the globe or map was produced.

they are a lot more accurate on the large scale but if you want small details then it is horrible. you would want to use a flat map if you wanted to go a short distance like from home to grandmas
