What you are talking about is the Coriolis effect. In the northern hemisphere currents rotate in a clockwise rotation and in the Southern Hemisphere current rotation is in an anti clockwise rotation.

Water always flows down a river, so upstream is the opposite direction from the direction in which the water flows.

What is cuurrent?

Not sure what a suface cuurrent is. In deep water, there often are currents that flow in different directions at different depths. A surface current will flow in one direction, near the surface, while there will be a current flowing in the opposite direction deeper down.

If you walk on s log floating water the log moves in opposite direction explain why this happens?

Newton's third law of motion: every action has an equal and opposite reaction.

Does water at the equator in a sink just drop down the drain with no turning?

Yes, but you can cause it to turn in either direction by stirring the water. Then it will continue to turn on its own. You can also force the water to turn in the opposite direction in either hemisphere by doing the same thing.

Does water in toilets in Australia flow in the opposite direction than in Kentucky?

Although the Coriolis Effect would tend to influence an opposite direction of flow, the actual effect is immeasurably small on the scale of household plumbing. Other, mostly random factors mean that the flow could be in either direction, or alternately in both.
