GRAN stands for Granulocytes, which is a part of the WBCs. There are 5 types of WBCs (Differential Count): Neutrophils, Lymphocytes, Monocytes, Eosinophils and Basophils. A collective count of Monocytes, Eosinophils and Basophils are together called Granulocytes. In the less advanced cell counters, ie. the 3 Part Differential Cell Counters, Neutrophils, Lymphocytes and Granulocytes are counted whereas in 5 Part Differential Cell counters, Neutrophils, Lymphocytes, Monocytes, Eosinophils and Basophils are counted separately and more accurately.

A total white blood count gives a single number - how many white blood cells were present per milliliter of sample. Different white blood cells will respond to different types of pathology - neutrophils are associated with bacterial infections, eosinophils with parasite infestation, monocytes with chronic infections, etc.
White blood cells that engulf and destroy pathogens are called monocytes (which circulate in the blood and reside in the bodies tissues) and neutrophil or neutrocytes (which circulate in the bloodstream as well but are particularly responsive to bacterial and fungal infections and inflammations).
Diapedesis occurs when capillary permeability increases allowing the migration of monocytes through the capillary walls into tissues. Once there, monocytes are considered macrophages. This allows for full macrophage activity.
