What is the distance between the red sea and Jerusalem?
It depends on how you define the "Red Sea". In the common-use of the term, the Red Sea is also used for the Gulf of Aqaba, which is a smaller inlet to the Red Sea. If the Gulf of Aqaba is counted as part of the Red Sea, the distance is 155 miles or 249 kilometers. If the Red Sea is only the sea-proper, then the distance expands to 264 miles or 424 kilometers, at the Straits of Tiran.

Why is the Red Sea called the Red Sea?
There are a number of possible explainations: Answer 1: This sea is called the "Red Sea" because: The Red Sea splits into two at its northern end into the Gulf of Suez, and the Gulf of Aqaba. The name originally applied to the Gulf of Aqaba, which bordered the land of Edom, which means "red". 1 Kings 9:26 - And King Solomon made a navy of ships in Eziongeber, which is beside Eloth, on the shore of the Red Sea, in the land of Edom. Today Eloth is callled Eilat, and is at the north eastern tip of the Gulf of Aqaba, and is located in what was the land of Edom. Esau was born red. Edom, another name for Esau, means "red". Genesis 25:25 - And the first came out red, all over like an hairy garment; and they called his name Esau. So the sea that borders the land of Edom is called the Red Sea. It is the Gulf of Aqaba that the Israelites crossed (from Nuweba beach) having walked day and night for six days across the Sinai peninsula. The real Mount Sinai is not in what is now called the Sinai peninsula, but in Arabia. Galatians 4:25 - For this Agar is Mount Sinai in Arabia. Source: Bible - Authorized Version Answer 2: It is called the Red sea because of a typo in the translation. In Hebrew, it is called Yam Suf (ים סוף) which means "reed sea". An early spelling error caused it to become known as the red sea. Modern Jewish publications are careful to always refer to it now as the Reed Sea or the Sea of Reeds. Answer 3: The name of the sea may signify the seasonal blooms of the red-coloured cyanobacteria Trichodesmium erythraeum near the water's surface. Which gives the sea a red coloured look. How far is mt sinai from eilat?
That depends on which Mt. Sinai you are speaking about. The Mt. Sinai accepted as the place Moses met God by the church is located east of the Red Sea in the Sinai Penninsula. That site was located by the mother of Constantine and in reality, has little merit as being the true site. The main reason being... the Israelites went to Sinai after crossing the Red Sea and the crossing would have placed them on the west side of the Sea. The traditional Mt. Sinai is on the east side of the Sea. The general and growing consensus now is the blackened mountain in Southern Saudia Arabia known as Jebel el Lawz is likely the true site. Now to answer your question, probably about 500 miles on the latter, and 350-400 miles if the former.

No, the Red Sea is not a river, furthermore it is not in south america. The Red Sea is a seawater inlet of the Indian Ocean, lying between Africa and Asia. The connection to the ocean is in the south through the Bab el Mandeb strait and the Gulf of Aden. In the north, there is the Sinai Peninsula, the Gulf of Aqaba, and the Gulf of Suez (leading to the Suez Canal). The Red Sea is a Global 200 ecoregion. The sea is underlain by the Red Sea Rift which is part of the Great Rift Valley.
