For basic idea, different liquid had different boiling point thus upon boiling the vapour would contain more of the lower boiling point and separated out.

Distillation can be used to separate solutions of miscible liquids because ?

Distillation works because liquids boil at different temperatures. Roughly speaking, in order to separate two liquids, you should heat the mixture to a temperature where one of the liquids (but not the other) is past its boiling temperature. Then the first liquid will boil off, leaving the second liquid behind; you can collect the first liquid in a condenser.

Why evaporation and distillation can separate a solute from a solution using the particle model of matter?

Because of the friction that makes it separate!!hope that helped

Why is it not possible to use ethanol to extract an organic compound from water?

Because ethanol and water are miscible solutions, that is that they can mix together or co-dissolve.

Explain why a distillation would not separate a mixture of the miscible liquids formic acid which boils at 100.7 degrees celsius and water which boils at 100 degrees celsius?

This is because their boiling points are close. Distillation is used to separate mixtures in which their constituents have boiling points that are relatively far apart. A better method would be fractional distillation which can be used to separate mixtures in which their constituents have relatively close boiling points.

Why cannot copper nitrate and lead nitrate solutions be separated using a separation funnel?

Because copper nitrate and lead nitrate solutions are miscible with one another, and form only a single liquid phase when mixed. Separation funnels are useful for separations only of liquids that form at least two liquid phases when mixed together.

Distillation can be used separate solutions of miscible liquids because?

Distillation can be used to separate solutions of miscible liquids, because the liquids have different boiling points. Distillation works because it vaporizes the more volatile of the two liquids.

Why do the solutions not mixed in a separating funnel?

Because they're not miscible. It would be pointless to use a sep funnel on two liquids that were miscible.

Explain why distillation is a good way to separate C8H18 and C5H12 liquids?

both of these are liquid hydrocarbons so have the same chemical properties therefore can not beseparated by chemical means by physical means their separation is not possible by filtration because both are miscible so only method to separate them is fractional distillation because they have different boiling points.

Why is crude oil separated by fractional distillation?

Petroleum is a mixture of various useful constituents and cannot be used directly,so to use it we have to seperate petroleum by a method called fractional distillation of petroleum.

Why can you not seperate a solution by filtering because?

Why is liquid water and ethanol described as miscible?

Because a mixture of ethanol and water in any proportions forms a single phase liquid at standard temperature and pressure. That is the meaning of "miscible".

The distillation of sea water is it physical or chemical change?

I think it is a physical change because it doesn't have a change in the element.
