I'm black and grew up on the south side of Chicago. As a child I played from morning to night with my friends and siblings all summer long. I have NEVER needed sunscreen nor have I or anyone in my family ever had a sunburn. My children who are now college students have NEVER had a sunburn. We are the lightest to the darkest shades of brown. Bottom line melanin is our natural sun screen. The more we're exposed to intense sunlight the darker our skin becomes. It's like going from SPF 20 to SPF 50. When the intensity of sun exposure decreases the skin lightens a few shades. As an RN for nearly two decades none of our patients admitted for skin cancer were black/african. Blacks can stay out in the sun as long as we want our skin darkens to protect us, it doesn't burn or peel. Those who are bi-racial and very light, i.e. lacking melanin may very well burn when exposed for prolong periods of time.
YES BLACK PEOPLE DO GET SUNBURN. I am black and i sit i the sun too long my skin and all my friends skin get darker and dry and hurts to the touch.
People with light skin are the most vulnerable to get sun burned. But even dark and black skin can burn and should be protected.
Well as we all know Black skin is the ideal skin color for protection against UV rays. Sunburns are at the lowest than among fair-skinned people. However there are light-skinned Black people who get mild sunburns and Black people who have an albinistic condition suffers severe sunburns which accounts to their low survival in tropical Africa. Yes there are Black people who get sunburnt!
Yes, African Americans do get sunburned..... I live in Houston and pretty fair skinned. I was severly burned on my face, chest and shoulders. Adeema sunblock is great for coverage. 60 minutes did a special on it. Kimberly
Of course. People of African descent have more melanin in their skin, which helps protect from the damage caused by UV rays. But it's not an impenetrable shield; with enough direct exposure, even the darkest skin can get burned.
All human skin can burn in the sun.
While dark skin offers more protection against sunburn, black people *can* still get sunburnt.
there skin will start to peel.
Yes, people of all races can suntan, but the process and effects may vary depending on skin tone. People with darker skin tones tend to tan more easily and are less likely to burn compared to those with lighter skin tones.
