Yes a DVD can wear out. All materals degrade with time and the plastics and other materials used in DVDs are no exception but it will take a (very) long time and the degradation has very little to do with whether or not the DVD is played many times. Recordable DVD's (and even more so Re-recordable DVDs) have a shorter lifespan than the commercial (pressed from a matrix) disks. The greatest risk to the information stored on a DVD is still mechanical abrasion due to handling the disk.
Inasmuch as any digital device does, yes. However, in case of all laser devices (like CD/DVD/BRDVD players and CD/DVD computer devices), there is also the problem with lasers and their optics.
Laser optics aren't really made out of glass - the materials they're made of degrade with time and weathering. It's absolutely acceptable for a laser device to "wear out" after a few years of use (or a year or two of intensive use). For old devices, sometimes "boosting" the laser (increasing its power) will help for a short while, but one risks damaging the device by doing so.
Regular cleaning (ie. once every half a year) by using professional tools and substances that don't eat away at plastic and similar materials may help in prolonging the device's service life. Cleaning disks that feature delicate brushes are also available.
In the end, though, the device will wear out - this is a tradeoff between service life and cost. As devices get cheaper, their service life decreases. This is why this category of devices is called "consumer electronics".
not really. the glue although can get a little faulty causing:
1. the look of erotion or disintegration
and 2. skipping of the content.
if you experience any skipping in the disk then you should probably clean it. if it still skips after the cleaning, you should throw it away or use it for a craft.
DVDs can last years DVDs last for about 4 years maybe 7 or 8 years before getting worn out If you have kid's DVDs might get dirty.
There are widely varying qualities of DVDs. Also, how a DVD is handled and stored has a major effect on how long they last. Even the best disks, handled and stored carefully may not last 50 years.
