Not as we know him, as due to an accident of language, in French Nicole- the closest handle- is a woman"s name, there is no male Nicholas. The French equivalent character, costume ho=-ho and all is called Pere Noel, or Father Christmas- some might say Pere de Noel- father of Christmas, is more accurate. oddly Nicholas as a male name is not found in French, Nicole is female as is Colette.

Santa Claus is a figure in France. He's known as Pere Noel and he is said to deliver gifts to all the good girl and boys. The children leave carrots and hay in their shoes, and Pere Noel (Santa) comes at night and exchanges the reindeer food for presents. :)
