The better question would be - Do HD DVD's play on regular DVD players? The answer is yes.
But consider this. Can you play watch a color movie on a black and white tv? Sure, but you'll only see it in black and white. The same is true of the HD DVD's. It's not whether or not they will play, it's whether or not the monitor can produce the proper output. To which the answer is 'No'.
HD DVDS are DVDs that can be played on high definition TV players. The regular DVD can be played on any TV and is not in the same definition as the HD DVDs.
Yes it can play regular DVDs and on a HDTV connected with a HDMI cable will upscale them to near HD quality. It will also do the same for burned TV shows and movies made on a Media Center computer.
Well a Blu-Ray machine has special technology that can make the DVD image into an HD-compatible image. But the image is not the full resolution.
HD tv is better than normal tvs because they have more dots per inch which gives a clearer picture with more detail over normal tv. however if your tv is being used to play regular definition tv media, or bad quality dvds then it may in fact make the image look worse than regular tv.
HD ready tv is High Definition - meaning more clear, concise and crisp picture as well as sound. There is special programming through your cable for this if you have a High Definition television.
Yes and if you have a HD TV they are upscaled to HD and look great. The PS3 also will play DVDs that you burn on Your Media Center computer of TV shows you recorded. It has played everything much better than in my Sony DVD/VCR combo player so that I no longer even consider using it to play DVDs. Of course it also Plays Blu Ray discs and the pictures look better than the 720P HD broadcast of the same movie.
No. A DVD player can be hooked up directly to the HD or regular inputs that exist on the back of a television. You should be able to watch DVDs with merely a TV and a DVD player.
No some DVDs are restricted to certain regions and others might not be readable by the PS3. My PS3 has no trouble reading the DVDs I make of TV programs I record on my Media Center computer and it upgrades them to near HD quality. It also played the DVDs I rented better than my DVD/VCR.
This depends on if you want to watch HD tv. OfCourse an HD plasma tv will be better than a regular plasma if your looking toward watching television in HD.
Yes, but you'll need an "upconverting" DVD player that can enlarge the size of the image of your DVDs to look OK on the HDTV. Look for a player that says "1080p" for its upconverting resolution.
I'm not ENTIRELY sure, But, Since the HD-DVD player requires the small wavelength of a blue lazer to read the disk, I'm assuming that normall DVD players won't play HD-DVD's. I have never tried it though.
You will see a difference beteween a regular and HD digital video camera. HD offers sharper imaging quality and you will see a difference in picture quality even if you don't play it on an HD TV.
