It is recommended to use Apples' wall plugs, due to the proper amount of voltage that it puts out. You CAN use a different wall plug but it will ruin your battery over time.

Yes, but you need a USB to AC power adapter to do it. Apple sells them for a ridiculous $50, You can probably get them cheap elsewhere. The one I have is the charger for the Palm Pre, which you can plug the ipod into.

Well, have you tried holding the center button down then pressing menu, and following that pattern consistently till it turns on. If that does not work you might need to plug it in to that back of your computer or plug it into a wall (that is what they told me at the apple store). And if it still does not work then take it to the nearest Apple store (they will fix it)
