Cats live in a wide range of times, but the most simple way to explain this (note: it may be different depending on the on the specific breed) the larger the cat the less years it will live. The average tabby "mut" cat will live 9 to 15 years. The Maine Coon (a large breed) lives an average of 7, although i have seen Maine Coons live up to 12, maybe older.
A very long time!
Maine Coons, due to being such a large breed, develop much more slowly than an average-sized cat. A Maine Coon is not considered to be an adult until it has finished growing and developing, which can be between 3 to 5 years old. It should not be allowed to breed before this time. If you are thinking of breeding, it is best to get in contact with cat breed clubs who will be able to offer advice and information, or the breeder you bought your cat from if this is the case.
