In the US, all military recruits attend some form of "boot camp," otherwise known as recruit training or basic training. Air Force recruits attend training in San Antonio, TX, for 8.5 weeks. Navy recruits attend training at Naval Station Great Lakes for roughly 8 weeks.
All recruits are ordered to write (not email) letters to family during Basic Training.
During Navy boot camp, communication with family is limited and regulated. Typically, recruits are allowed to make brief phone calls at specified times, usually on Sundays. Writing letters is another option, but it might take longer for them to be delivered. It's important to follow the guidelines and schedules provided by the Navy to maintain communication with your family while in boot camp.
The length of liberty after Navy boot camp varies. Typically, recruits are granted an overnight liberty pass (typically up to 48 hours) upon completion of boot camp. However, the duration and restrictions of liberty may vary depending on the specific circumstances and requirements set by the command.
Navy Boot Camp, as others, are nominally 8 weeks in length. There are variables which may increase the time spent there by a week or so, but they are usually at the receiving barracks. That is time spent waiting for a sufficient amount of recruits to arrive to form a company.
Recruits don't get any time off for traditional holidays, let alone Navy holidays. You'll get time to yourself and usually a break from the usual grind since everyone else on base is off (save for the cooks and those standing security watches) but the only leave you'll see is when you graduate. Spent Christmas myself in Boot Camp.
Navy Boot Camp lasts for eight weeks followed by an "A school" after graduation.
Only through Navy Boot Camp.
That used to be an recruitment slogan for the US Navy. It was given to the Navy by Ken Mackay in boot camp toward the end of training during an interview. It was his answer to the question: "Why did you join the Navy?" He got high test scores and a commendation while in boot camp and the Navy was interested in his answer. The year was 1961. Until that time recruits were advised that the service was a good place to get experience so they could get a job. The "Voice" of that campaign was Harry Chase... his first gig in NYC.

Marine Corps recruits should take around $20, their photo identification and nothing more with them to boot camp.
To introduce, indoctrinate, and train recruits for combat operations.
