They have wholeheartedly supported evolution from the moment it was proposed and continue to acknowledge that it is an essential part of the ability to understand the natural world and critical to anyone wishing to take part in modern scientific endeavors. After 1885 no serious discussion of the truth of evolution was a part of church of teachings. It was almost universally accepted as a fact. As universal as anything can be among a group of believers that hold to no written creed can be.
