Yes, the Pacific Northwest - west of the Cascades - is an ideal rhododendron growing area. Rhododendrons like acid soil - between pH 5.2 and pH 6.2 - well drained soil - not heavy loam. If you have clay type soil, you'll want to plant in raised beds with lots of organic material.
In the NW, established plants usually do not need much fertilizing, but using an azalea/rhododendron fertilizer in early and late spring will help plants get established.
There are many good hybrids and species rhododendrons at NW nurseries and many can be found at the American Rhododendron Society web site - the plant data tab also lists hundreds of varieties with many photos.
