Faulty is not the same as defective which would be covered under the warranty and so would optional Sony Packaged equipment, but not necessary for as long a time. PS3 controllers do break and do not have a lifetime warranty and can suffer very rough treatment from many users and breaking from rough treatment would not indicate any defective in the manufacture of the item.

The same is not true for controllers which will continue to remain on when you turn the PS3 off unless you go to the PS3 setting and set it to automatically turn off the controllers. The other accessories should work just like the controllers.
