Six, or maybe none. There are 40 days in Lent. However if you count the number of days from Ash Wednesday to Holy Saturday (the day before Easter) you find there are 46 days. How many days in Lent?

40 Days of LentLent starts on Ash Wednesday, lasts 40 days not counting Sundays and ends on Holy Saturday, the day before Easter. There are 46 days because Sundays are not included during Lent. Some say that Sundays aren't counted in the 40 days of Lent, because every Sunday carries with it a part of the glow of Easter Sunday. So it's not all gloom and doom. But even on the Sundays, the theme of repentance (turning from our ungodly ways) holds true. When you repent, you please God whether you fast or not, and that is what most counts for Lent. Others say that Sundays are not included because Lent is a serious time but Sundays are always a day of celebration in the Christian Church.

It ends at sunset on Holy Saturday (the day before Easter Sunday). Lent is 40 days but, for Christians, Sunday is always a day of celebration so they are not counted as part of lent and you don't fast on them. There are 46 days from Ash Wednesday to Holy Saturday, take out the Sundays and you have 40 days of fasting in Lent.
