No US citizen, child or adult, needs to have a passport to travel within the US. There are no border checkpoints between any of the States. However, everyone entering the US from any other country, US citizen or not, must have a passport to enter or re-enter the US. -AY Original answer:

Yes. Everyone needs a passport when going into or leaving a country. If you are in the U.S and are just traveling through the states, then you don't need one.

At this point in time children need no passport to travel within the United States, nor do adults need a passport.

If one is an adult, or a 16 year old driver, then one needs a driver's license. For bus, train or plane, one needs some form of government ID, usually a driver's license, but state ID, military ID or Passport works.

Due to the fact that Miami is located in the state of Florida and due to the fact that both Florida and Louisiana are constituent states of the United States, they are both within the same country and therefore you will not encounter passport controls while traveling between them. However, if you are not a United States citizen, you need to have your non-American passport with you at all times.
