Normally yes, but not all the time. You have to be very lucky to not have them bend though.
Yes. Most cars are interference motors, this means if the belt breaks, there will be engine damage( bent valves, possible broken pistons). If it is a none interference motor, it will crank, but won't start.
Junk, it is an interference motor. You need to replace the belt as recommended. For those who don't understand, some motors just die when the timing belt breaks. Nothing bad happens, just need a tow to a shop to get it replaced. On an "interference" engine, there is no clearance inside the engine between the pistons and the valves if they are not in time. If the timing belt breaks, the pistons slam against the valves, destroying the engine.
Yes. 03 Sienna should have a VVTI engine ( a 1MZ FE with vvti ) which is an interference engine and the valves will hit the piston if it snaps at higher RPM. Pre 01 Siennas have non VVTI 1MZ FE motors, and those are non-interference, therefore safe.
yes they are interference motors yes they are interference motors
Yes, It will. HF and the Si versions are interference type motors! It won't kill your entire engine but you will have too rebuild the head because of the bent valves!!!
very much is one, most dsm's are all interference motors, once the timing belt breaks, snaps, tears, anything happens to that belt while drving or even while the car is running, you can almost count on getting a new head or your valves re-set, alot of damage can be done with anything happening to that timing belt
Like many motors built over the past decade, the 2.7 liter V-6 engine used by Kia and Hyundai is an interference motor. If the cam timing belt breaks, the valves will hit the pistons, usually causing significant damage to valves, pistons, and sometimes even connecting rods and heads. Cam belt replacement is recommended at 60,000 miles.
Change it at 100,000 miles. Warning! If you have the 2.0 Liter engine, it is an Interference engine. If the belt breaks, serious engine damage will occur on this engine. Do not neglect this! If you have the 2.4 and the belt breaks you will just be stranded. (correction: The 2.0 and 2.4 are interference motors. Belt breaks on either of these engines and you may need a new head.)
No. the 1.6 and 1.8 corolla motors are what we call non interference or freewheeling. this means that if the timing belt breaks the chance of engine damage is highly unlikely.
Yes.
Honda Civics do not have a interference engine. These cars use non-interference engines which means the pistons and valve have space between each other when the engine is operational. COMPLETELY wrong. D-series motors ARE INTERFERENCE MOTORS.
Yes, the 1992-96 Honda Preludes have interference motors.
