Yes. As their habitat lacks good quality nutrients and the chemical, Nitrogen, it is mandatory that the Flytrap gets its energy from other sources - eating insects. Photosynthesis alone would not keep the Venus Flytrap alive.

Yes, Venus Flytraps eat flies, crickets, beetles, and other small bugs. They are also known to eat small animals such as frogs. They eat flies in order to survive and gain much needed nutrients.

The Venus Flytraps diet does not have to be restricted to insects, it also enjoys the occasional slug, wood louse or even spider. All of these must be living when eaten to trigger the sensitive hairs inside the traps as these are triggered by repeated movement.

Not only does the Venus Flytrap eat flies, it could eat any insect or spider. It really depends the size of it. If it's smaller than the Venus Flytrap, the fly would not survive and would be eaten.

You should only give an insect to the Venus Flytrap if it can digest it between 5-10 days. If you feed it 3 flies per week, the Venus Flytrap will die! If you are going to feed the Venus Flytrap water, you will need to buy a garden spray bottle and distilled water or rain drops. Spray it 3-5 times per 1-2 weeks.
