This does not always have to be the case, and in the instance of which you are speaking would be for an artist to draw you a custom design and then transferring it onto stencil paper. They could be using a stock piece of tattoo flash that they already have on file, then they simply have to run it through the thermofax machine with the stencil paper to make the stencil. They could draw the design right on your flesh with sterile skin scribe markers or Sharpie's, but these lines wipe off fairly easily, so a lot of artists don't prefer this method. Lastly, they could "free hand" the design right on you, which means that there is no stencil or sketch at all and the artist is creating the design and colors right out of his or her head.

Not necessarily, but this is most often the case. It's just more time affective and fluid as opposed to having to sit down with the client, brainstorm ideas, do upwards of a couple different sketches of the same thing for them since they usually don't really know what they want with custom tattoos, and you have then have to re-sketch the design on their body with a scribe, most likely have to make corrections to the sketch, and then finally start the tattoo. Some artists are purely "freehand", which is to say that they use NO outline of any kind and just do what comes to their head at the time and the client puts their trust in the artist and will go with it because their skill level is that high. Artists of this canon are few and far between, so this is why most artists stick to the sketch/stencil operation as opposed to the more arduous process of trying to do freehand or mixed freehand.

What does a tattoo artist use to tattoo?

Well generally we would use a drawing on a light box to take an outline from a design that you would bring in, assuming it would be a non custom piece. besides that we would use a thermo fax or hand trace the design on carbon paper to get our stencil

Where can one get a tattoo of dragon skin body armor?

At a local tattoo parlor. In order to get a tattoo onto one's skin, one has to see a tattoo artist. There is no mail order for this service. One would be wise to do a little research before selecting a particular artist. Most of them show off some of their previous work, pictures on the walls and the staff working at tattoo parlors usually have done some work on each other. This will indicate the level of skill available at the place. Most of the professional artists, will let the customer make a custom request like a dragon skin body armor. They should be able to make a "preview" on paper. If not, go to another parlor.

What are the working conditions for an artist?

First, talk with the client about procedure and regulations you will be following.Have the client fill out a form of consent for the tattoo for legal reasons. You will needto see their picture ID, and if they are under 18, you need to see birth certificate and an ID of the Client, as well as the parent, or legal documentation stating the client is emancipated, and an ID.Talk with the client about the Design they want, and if it's going to look horrible, don't be afraid to make a suggestion. Try not to judge or impose your ideals on the customer, you wont make any money, and you will lose clientele. After you get an understanding of what the customer wants, you will need to make a sketch of what they want, and have them approve. If the sketch is approved you will thendraw an outline, and place it on transfer paper. The transfer is applied to the skin with a tattoo goo, and then you start to tattoo. As far as shop stuff goes. You need to keep the shop clean, keep all consent forms on file, and keep internments and tools clean. The chairs need to be wiped down before and after each client. Guns need to be auto-claved, and needles and ink caps need to be disposed of properly. Gloves need to be changed before and after the tattoo. As well as during clean up, and if you touch anything, gloves MUST BE CHANGED. Hands do need to be washed even if you are wearing gloves. Health Department guidelines have to be followed, or you can get your tattoo license taken away.

Where is tattoo paper available?

Temporary tattoo paper is definitely not found in every store. It is best to look in a stationary store or computer specialty store for this type of material. I'd also try a professional Beauty supply store. And ask any tattoo parlor. They must have some to rough out new designs and try them out. I'm sure the can tell you where to buy some, or possibly sell you some.

Where do you get pre drawn carbon tattoo paper?

A little confused by your answer as it is...do you mean where can you get thermal paper, or the piece of thermal paper that was used for your tattoo? If you ask to keep the stencil, the artist will probably oblige you, but during the application the design on the paper looks quite muddy and bleedy, so there's not much point in saving it unless you're a hardcore scrapbooker. You can get thermal paper online or through tattoo suppliers for very cheap.

Tattoo of lips?

It has become trendy to get tattoos of lips. Many people who have these had someone put lipstick on and kiss a piece of paper so the tattoo artist can replicate their lips permanently onto their body.

What is a platen in a dot matrix printer?

The platen is normally the long, cylinger shaped bar that the paper feeds accross that applies pressure to the paper (causing a firm, sturdy section on the paper) that allows the printhead and ink ribbon combo to apply ink and create image to the paper. Analogy - Getting a tattoo on your bicep: The tattoo gun and artist would be the printhead/ink ribbon combo. The bone in your bicep wrapped with your muscle would be the platen. Your skin is the paper. No need to tractor-feed your skin, the tattoo artist will handle the mechanics. lol Hope this help! Daniel Collins
